About The Scene

What is The Scene?

The Scene is a compatibility-first dating and community app for the kink community. It combines a mandatory 15-minute consent course, a real matching quiz across 18 categories, and per-category privacy controls.

Who is it for?

Adults, strictly 18 and over, who are active in or curious about the kink, BDSM, or fetish community. Switches, tops, bottoms, service-oriented, sensation-focused, ritual-focused, and everything else in between. If consent culture, specific compatibility, and privacy matter to you, you are the audience.

When does it launch?

2026 in Sydney, Android first, iOS to follow. We have not yet committed to an exact date. Join the waitlist at thescenedatingapp.com and we will email you the moment it is live.

How is it different from Feeld, Fetlife, Tinder?

Tinder is a general consumer dating app built around photos and swipes. Feeld is open to non-monogamy but runs the same general model. Fetlife is a community and event platform, not a matching app. The Scene is compatibility-first: a real quiz feeds a real matching algorithm, hard limits heavily clamp compatibility scores, consent education is mandatory, and privacy is controlled category by category.

Safety and consent

How long is it?

15 minutes. Short enough that finishing it is realistic, long enough that the content is actually useful. It is not a clickwrap.

What if I don't complete it?

You can browse the app, but you cannot match with anyone until you finish. Completion earns a Consent Certified badge that appears on your profile.

How do you handle reports?

Every report is reviewed. Reports involving incapacitated consent, harassment, non-consensual behaviour, or any safety concern follow a specific moderation protocol with named escalation paths. Full details live in our Community Guidelines.

Can I block someone?

Yes. Blocks are bidirectional, enforced at the database layer. Neither of you will see the other in discovery, messages, or anywhere else on the platform.

Can I verify someone's age?

Everyone on The Scene has passed Yoti age verification before matching. A verified badge on a profile means that person has confirmed, via a third-party identity document check, that they are 18 or over.

Matching and privacy

How does the matching work?

You take a quiz. Your answers produce a vector of scores across 18 categories. The algorithm compares your scores to other profiles in your area, clamps any matches with hard-limit conflicts, and orders your feed so the most compatible people show up first. Everyone is still visible, just sorted by fit.

What does the quiz cover?

Specific activities across 18 categories: dominance, sexual activity, toys, aftercare, sensation, bondage, impact, breath play, humiliation, body torture, fetish, names, phrases, scenes, service, voyeurism, fluids, body and dress, and third parties. For each item you mark an interest level (Essential, Exciting, Intriguing, Willing, Dislike, or Hard Limit) and, where relevant, a role preference.

What's the difference between hard limits and soft limits?

A hard limit is a strong compatibility clamp. The algorithm zeroes out the whole category in scoring, and if your hard limit meets someone's Essential, it caps the overall match score so they sink to the bottom of your feed. A soft limit is a "Dislike," factored into the score but not clamped. Your hard limits are never visible on your profile.

Can people see my answers?

Only the parts you choose. You can mark each of the 18 categories as public, match-only, or private. Your hard limits stay private by default, always. Enforcement is at the database query layer, not just in the UI.

Are photos private?

You have two sets. Public profile photos are visible to any verified member. Private photos stay blurred until you choose to reveal them to a matched user, and they are served via signed URLs that expire within minutes, so a screenshot of the URL cannot be reused.

Who sees my compatibility scores?

No one sees your raw scores. The algorithm uses them to order your feed and to compute a match score shown to you and the other person when you match. The underlying numbers stay private to you.

Signup and account

When can I sign up?

The waitlist is open now at thescenedatingapp.com. We will email you the moment the app goes live in Sydney in 2026.

How much does it cost?

The Scene has a free tier with daily limits and a premium tier with additional features. We have not finalised pricing yet, and we have committed publicly that premium will never buy visibility priority. Premium is features, not feed placement.

Can I delete my account?

Yes, at any time from Settings. Deletion is permanent. All your data is removed from the active database within 30 days. See our Privacy Policy for the full retention breakdown.

How do I unsubscribe from emails?

Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link in the footer. You can also toggle marketing consent off in Settings inside the app, or email admin@thescenedatingapp.com and we will do it for you.
